Student Activities: Georgia Standards
Fall is the perfect time for educators to develop the habits of citizenship in a new generation of Americans. The Bill of Rights, which is the first 10 amendments to the Constitution, is currently the focus of many national debates, Supreme Court decisions, and new laws passed by Congress.
Explore this important theme during the election season inside SIRS Researcher, with activities linked to Georgia standards.
Why should we teach students about Hispanic heritage? Or, for that matter, why teach about any heritage? Tap into SIRS Discoverer to answer these essential questions.
SIRS Interactive Citizenship also offers a hands-on set of essential questions wrapped around a Fall theme of "Constitution & Citizenship." Don't miss out!

Electronic Resources Integration Idea
Civil Rights Digital Library (CRDL)
Social studies educators and librarians, take note. The Civil Rights Digital Library (CRDL) is the most ambitious and comprehensive initiative to date to deliver educational content on the Civil Rights Movement via the Web.
The CRDL promotes an enhanced understanding of the Movement trough its three principal components:
- A digital video archive delivering 30 hours of historical news film allowing learners to be nearly eyewitnesses to key events of the Civil Rights Movement.
- A civil rights portal providing a seamless virtual library on the Movement drawing on holdings from more than 75 libraries and allied organizations from across the nation.
- Instructional materials to facilitate the use of the video content in the learning process.
The CRDL initiative includes a special site for teachers, called "Freedom on Film" (in development) that relates civil rights stories from nine Georgia towns and cities, along with related news film, discussion questions, lesson plans, and related readings. Login today!
