Accessing & Using Adobe PDFs in eLibrary
eLibrary connects researchers to more than 2,500 full-text magazines, newspapers, e-books, and transcripts--plus millions of pictures, maps, websites, and streaming audio/video files.
Magazines and journals are not only available in full text, but now also available in PDF format for more than 1,000 titles.
It's easy to identify articles available in PDF. Articles published in eLibrary after July 30, 2008 indicate PDF availability in the index details and also display a PDF icon when that format is available. To access the PDF directly from the results, click the PDF icon.
Get our list of eLibrary titles with PDFs and print our new quick start guide to start mining this new content today.

Classroom Activities
Staying Cyber-Safe in Cyberspace
October is Computer Learning Month. More and more studies confirm that when quality digital information technology is employed by well-trained teachers, student achievement increases in both academic content and in the essential skills of reading, writing, and critical thinking.
The good news is that the use of computers and the Internet supports many of the traditional and research-proven practices in education and also adds some new possibilities: learning can take place anytime and anywhere; world-class resources are available to all students; significant non-learning time is saved in using inquiry-based activities; and learning resources can be customized for individual learning styles and reading levels.
The bad news is that student access to the Internet in schools creates a variety of hazards for students and teachers: cyber-bullying, inappropriate content, identity theft, spreading rumors, cheating, etc. How are schools trying to deal with these personal threats to students and the distractions that erode the teaching and learning process?
Our curriculum expert has created a BookCart learning activity to help your students learn more about the dangers of using the Internet both in school and at home: "Protecting Students from Internet Threats."

eLibrary Story
I just wanted to publicly thank and commend ProQuest/SIRS for adding the AASL Standards for the 21st Century Learner to their standards correlation link/page.
To my knowledge they are the first of the major school library database vendors that have done so.
Alphabetically, the AASL name displays at the top of their United States National pull down menu (along with ISTE, NAC & NCSS)... This is definitely another tool (for us as school
librarians) to add to our evidence-based practices.
