Learning Activities: Georgia Standards
With the economy in trouble, clean energy jobs on the horizon, an ailing healthcare system, and two wars in the forefront, the world is watching how President Obama is leading during his first 100 days in the White House.
SIRS Researcher has created a special Leading Issue to help researchers of all ages better understand the challenges being presented to President Obama and the solutions he and his administration are proposing--Election 2008--Obama's First 100 Days. Sign in and access this new content today!
SIRS Discoverer also offers a hands-on set of essential questions for critical thinking to assist students in researching green energy topics: How will the stimulus funding create new and good paying jobs? What types of jobs will be needed to develop green energy sources?
Finally, what is the proper role of government in intervening in a market economy? Utilizing SIRS Interactive Citizenship, students can view the current economic crisis in terms of the successes and/or failures of the government to deal with past economic crises.

SIRS Leading Issues:
Global Financial Crisis & Election 2008+
The new administration under President Barack Obama made it a priority to tackle the global financial crisis. And so has SIRS! SIRS Researcher's new Leading Issue (handout list), Global Financial Crisis, explains the events leading up to the current financial state, presents both sides of the bailout issue, and provides links to recent articles from national and international publications.
Obama's First 100 Days: Our continuation of the Election 2008 Leading Issues feature focuses on President Barack Obama's first 100 days in office. This feature goes beyond the election to provide in-depth coverage of leading issues facing the new administration. The My Analysis section provides students with critical questions and a guided approach to decision making and knowledge application about this important topic.

Library Video Resources
Databases: Important 21st Century Tools
Georgia teaching and learning standards emphasize that students learn more and achievement improves when content is challenging, relevant, and promotes engaging learning experiences.
Join Adam Blackwell, manager of ProQuest's World Conflict Today online resource, as he demonstrates how teachers can use our state databases to tap into engaging content that turns students into advisors to our new President.
Don't miss our video series: "Advising President Obama -- Involving Students in 21st Century Learning." This offering runs about 30 minutes and is a "must see" for all middle and high school social studies teachers!
Plus, ProQuest's new "Captioning the Taliban" video teaches educators how to "read" historical photographs culled from our online resources. This will help students read between the lines and be better consumers of the visual information accessible inside our online reseach databases.

The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is often called the "Last Great Race on Earth."
