SIRS Podcast Contest Activity
Ever consider a 21st century alternative to research papers? SIRS Researcher's Student Video Podcast Contest is easily incorporated into your classroom curriculum. Students are asked to create a video podcast using materials researched in SIRS Researcher to either persuade or inform on a SIRS Leading Issue of their choice.
This month's hands-on activity contains advice for incorporating the contest into your March curriculum.
Gambling Awareness Lesson
Did you know that March 9-15 is National Problem Gambling Awareness Week? Don't let your students gamble their future away -- use this proactive activity to help them learn about the pros and cons of gambling within the safety of your classroom. Who are the people that are most likely to gamble, and why? Why do many people develop addictive gambling habits? What are three examples of societal problems caused by gambling?
Women's History Month
The lack of equal rights for women is often the cause of many other problems in our society: ongoing poverty, the growth of single parent families, and more. How do these problems relate to unequal rights for women? This month, students will explore several SIRS Leading Issues to learn more about how gender inequality contributes to many current societal issues.
